Sidney Sheldon was an influential novelist of the twentieth century whose work has reached readers all over the world. He was inducted into The Novelist Hall Fame in 1993 and Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1977. His other novels include "The Other Side of Midnight," "Rage of Angels," "Master of the Game," "Bloodline" and many more. The Other Side Of Midnight is set in Paris, France, where Catherine Grandville (Cathy), an American widow lives. When she meets Michael Terrence Howard (Misha) at a party thrown by her friend, Mark Vanderpump (Mark) who is also Cathy's ex-lover, Misha agrees to show her around Paris. Over the course of their acquaintance, they decide to take a vacation to Paris together, much to Cathy's surprise. The two discover that much has changed in the six years since the loss of Cathy's husband. Misha takes her to meet his friends and family members including a scheming Jewish New York lawyer named Jacobson, a friendly young student named Jonathan and a sympathetic Russian émigré named Grigori. These rather unusual people help Misha adjust to life again in Paris without Cathy. But Misha still holds onto hope for a romantic connection with Cathy and invites her back to New York who agrees, even though she is scheduled for another surgery in France at the end of the summer. One day, Cathy is picking up Michael from his office in Manhattan and they become involved in a minor accident with an impatient driver who has the same last name as Misha. This is where it all starts to unravel for them. The driver turns out to be an ex-girlfriend of Michael's and is pregnant with his child. Michael and Cathy head back to Cathy's apartment where she learns that Misha has already left for Paris and refuses her calls and emails. It turns out that Jacobson overheard the call from Cathy to Misha, leading him to know that she is scheduled for surgery soon. He then hatched a plan with Mark to get rid of her using the pregnancy story of Michael's ex-girlfriend. After Cathy's surgery, she dies in the hospital, leaving Misha broken-hearted. This book earned Sheldon the title of "The King of Suspense."
